Moni didn't make a sound.
She headed straight for the wardrobe and reached for the large suitcase on top. Seconds later, she had pulled it down to the ground successfully, and opened it wide. Ignoring the bed and its occupants, she opened the wardrobe and began piling all her clothes into the suitcase.
Moni, known for her fastidiousness and orderliness, for once, did not care what went where - she just tossed everything that was hers into the box.
"Maggie please hurry up now," Moni pleaded. "You know I told you I have to make a stop befire going home today."
"Moni I'm ready o," Maggie replied on the intercom. "I'm waiting for you to walk by my desk down here."
"Good." Moni said. "I'll be there in a jiffy."
It took Katie an hour to get back to Joy’s flat, but nobody was in when she got there. Her friend had warned her that she might go shopping with her mother, she recalled ruefully. As she walked back along the street, a 2011 Honda Accord nudged into the kerb just ahead of her, and a big middle-aged man in a suit leapt out
to jerk open the passenger door.
‘Mr Preye would like to give you a lift,’ he announced.
